According to a recent interview with Pocket-lint.co.uk, Samsung is only going to be releasing its second generation Blu-ray Disc (BD) player in the US next month, and it may never make its way on the other side of the pond.
"We don't know whether the 2nd generation player will be launching in the UK or not or whether we will wait until the 3rd generation player before Christmas," said marketing manager Stephen Mitchell.
While Blu-ray has a significant sales edge over HD DVD in the US, Europeans are actually diving into HD DVD hardware at a much faster rate than its Sony-fronted competitor.
This would likely explain why Samsung is holding off on investing too much into the European Blu-ray market at this point, especially since it plans to trump its 2nd-gen player with a third generation device later this year. The 3rd-gen hardware is expected to also make a presence in the UK.
