Google has announced what may well be the best free app ever for Android devices, called Google maps Navigation. The app turns any Android 2.0 phone like the new Droid into a turn-by-turn GPS navigation device at no cost.
The app includes some very slick features like voice search and the ability to route you using soft commands like "take me to the museum with the king tut display." The app will also offer voice or text data entry for addresses, traffic views, satellite, and Street View images.
Companies that make GPS apps for smartphones and stand alone GPS devices should be very nervous. Google is also reportedly in talks with Apple to bring the app to the iPhone.
