A company called Spring Design has unveiled a new eReader running Android with dual screens. The reader is called Alex and its patented dual screen technology is known as the Duet Navigator. The Alex device supports multimedia links and text.
The main screen of the device is a monochrome electronic paper display and the multimedia screen below is a color LCD. The Android OS allows the device to surf the Internet over Wi-Fi or 3G mobile broadband service.
The Alex has a 6-inch E-Ink EPD and the color LCD is 3.5-inches. The device also ships with earphones and a speaker. Spring reports that it is in discussion with content providers and has plans to release the Alex reader by the end of the year. Pricing is unknown.
