O2 has reportedly begun trialing its new LTE service that will bring much faster mobile broadband speeds to users. The company plans a mass rollout of LTE starting in 2010.
LTW will bring speeds of up to 140Mbps in the first release with a significantly increased speed of 340Mbps expected to be rolled out in 2011. The speeds are significantly faster than what is available now.
The downside is that at first smartphones won’t be able to access the new LTE service, it will require a LTE USB dongle for notebook computers because of power requirements. However, you can bet as LTE hits the market in force, handsets with support will come as well.
