The global economy is bad and even the largest and historically most profitable companies are feeling the pressure. Microsoft has so far stayed above the financial mess, but Microsoft is said to now be getting ready to start massive layoffs.

According to reports, Microsoft is set to cut as many as 15,000 employees from its 90,000 global employee workforce. The cuts are said to be coming on January 15th.

Microsoft has so far declined to comment, but cuts would make sense. When global computer sales are down, software sales are down in turn. Still other sources say cuts of that magnitude are unlikely.
