EA drew the ire of some residents in Finsbury Park when the Last Stop garage began offering free petrol to motorists as a promotion for the EA video game Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. Before the police forced the garage to halt the promotion, more than 600 drivers filled up.

Police forced the marketing stunt to stop at 11am after lines stretching 150 yards were stopping traffic. EA spokespeople say that it does not regret the stunt.

EA had intended to give away £20,000 worth of petrol but were only able to give away £11,000 worth before police forced the stop. Local residents are angry over a disruption to their day. The tie in for free gas with the game is that in the game fuel is used as currency.
