Apple Will Build its own iPhone chips

This week Steve jobs said that Apple is planning to begin building its own chips for its iPod and iPhone devices. Apple bought PA Semi, a chipmaker in April of this year for a reported $278 million.

The move would let Apple distinguish its products, and likely allow it to enjoy some cost savings on chips and add exclusive features. Steve Jobs told the New York Times that, “PA Semi is going to do system-on-chips for iPhone’s and iPods”.

There is no doubt that the iPhone and iPods are doing well in the marketplace. Analysts also say that the Apple App Store could be a billion dollar business in 2009.
