Those not interested in the pending launch of the iPhone 2 may be looking for a cool touchscreen alternative and Samsung has announced its contender right before the iPhone announcement. The Samsung device is called the i900 Omnia. While I wish they had forgone the little “i” the phone looks interesting.
It will feature a 3.2-inch haptic touchscreen, GPS, HSDPA connectivity, WiFi, Bluetooth and either 8Gb or 16Gb of storage. As is appropriate for an iPhone competitor the Samsung device runs Windows Mobile.
The camera is a 5MP unit with autofocus and image stabilization. That last bit you don’t find often on mobile phones. Geo-tagging of images is also a feature. One thing you can virtually guarantee is that the touchscreen on the Samsung device won’t work as well as the iPhone.
