The OLPC group has only recently begun selling its XO notebook to governments in developing countries around the world. In fact so far the response to its XO notebook hasn’t been that great. The XO was originally said to be offered for $100 USD and ended up costing in the area of $188 USD.
Despite the difficulties and less than stellar sales the OLPC has already announced it plans to update the XO by 2010. This time the little device is going all high-tech with dual touch screens. You have to wonder at the ability of the OLPC to produce such a notebook at a price anywhere near the $100 UDS mark.
I can see the benefit of the dual touch screens when holding the device like a book, but for actually typing on the machine in notebook style the touch screen will hardly be ideal. Ask anyone who has an iPhone, the lack of tactile feedback makes typing a chore on touch screen devices.
