ASUS to Launch EBox Desktop Version of Eee

Asus has been preparing a desktop version of the Eee notebook for a while now and the first images of the system have now appeared. The desktop system will be dubbed the EBox and will run on the Eee’s Linux OS.

The system looks very similar to the Wii, especially in the white color and a black version is available. The systems will have 2GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive. The remainder of the specs for the EBox are not being announced.

Register Hardware figures the machine will use the Diamondville Intel chip set to come to the Atom range next month. It appears that the EBox lacks an optical drive. Pricing is unknown, but it is predicted to be in the $200 to $300 range. The official launch for the system will be at Computex in Taipei.
