Sony PS2 Outsells PS3 by Millions in 2008

With all the talk of wars between the next generation Sony PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii it’s easy to forget there are still other video game consoles on the market. Sony’s own PS2 is still doing very well and is outselling its PS3 to the tune of 4 million units so far in 2008.

The PS2 is almost 8 years old and is still selling over 13 million units globally. The PS3 is slowly gaining ground with its sales up 156% over last year and the PS2 is seeing its sales decrease and were down 7% year-over-year.

The tiny PSP is doing swimmingly in the global market as well with 13.9 million units sold globally in the last fiscal year. The PSP was the company’s best selling game console for the year. Sony has stated in the past that it believes the PS2 has a 10-year life cycle so we may see the PS2 around for a couple more years to come.
