According to Times Online child abuse experts are going to use cartoons aimed at kids as young as 5 to warn the about online pedophiles. Kids in primary schools across the country will be introduced to a cartoon called Hector’s World. The series will have 5 characters that will explore safe use of the Internet.
The idea for the cartoon series came from New Zealand where similar cartoons were found to be helpful in teaching children about the dangers online. The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre has a seahorse policeman that helps keep track of how kids are doing.
According to research 59% of children between 5 and 7 have access to the Internet at home and 21% use the Internet by themselves. The program launched recently at St Vincent De Paul RC Primary School, Victoria, London.
