Gigabyte showed off an interesting 8800 GT from NVIDIA at CeBIT last week that uses something called Voltage Gear Overdrive designed to reduce the power consumption in 2D mode. The idea is that when the card is being used for normal PC work that doesn’t require full power it throttles back.
This is the way many mainboards operate to conserve power when the full CPU speed isn’t needed. Other interesting features include a Game HUD application.
The Gamer HUD allows for easy overclocking of the graphics card. The application allows individual overclocking of the memory, core and shader clocks. The Gigabyte 8800 GT Turbo Force is available now for about €200.
