Aircar Powered by Compressed Air

Typically when we hear about cars powered by alternative fuels we think hydrogen or battery power. A French inventor named Guy Negre says he has invented a car he hopes to sell in the next year powered by compressed air.

According to Negre the car will be good for the equivalent of 120MPG in town. Air to power the car is stored in carbon fibre tanks inside the frame of the car. An electrical compressor can also provide air for the motor with a charge of about four hours from the mains.

Long range driving is improved by using an onboard heater to heat the air and expand it to increase the pressure on the pistons. The burner will reportedly use “all kinds” of liquid fuels. The vehicle, called the OneCAT, will seat five and initially only be available in India at a cost of a bit over £2,500.
