Windows 7 Smashes Amazon Sales Records

Windows 7 officially launches tomorrow and many users are already enjoying the new OS through early upgrade programs and new systems that have been shipping with the OS installed. Those of us waiting for an upgrade have been able to pre-order Windows 7 for a while now on Amazon and other places.
The new OS has broken records for pre-order sales on Amazon according to the ecommerce giant. Amazon.co.uk has reported that the new OS sold more pre-order copies in the first 8 hours of availability than Vista was able to move in its entire pre-order period. Read more

Oh No, The Internet Is Too Slow In UK

A study by the Oxford University’s Said Business School says that the quality of broadband in the UK is worse than in Malta.
The UK is on 25th place. The broadband connectivity chart is of course led by Korea followed by Japan and Hong Kong. But the Swedes are already on 4th place.
All nations finally need to understand how important high bandwidth is for the future development. Korea knows this since years and plans already for the future. Earlier this year Korea announced investment plans to reach 1Gbps on fixed lines and 10Mbps through wireless by 2012 for consumers.

Cisco Ranks UK Broadband 25th Globally

A new study from Cisco has been published that ranks countries around the world based on the quality of the broadband service available. Cisco ranked the UK 25th in the world.
At the top of the charts were South Korea and Japan with networks judged to be ready for the future. The UK came in behind surprising places like Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, and Slovenia. Read more

Driver Fined for Following Sat Nav and being Dumb

Robert Jones is the guy who followed his navigation device in his BMW down a path so narrow that only folks walking their dogs used it. The real problem wasn't that he followed the nav down a walking path, but the path ended in a cliff.
The only thing that kept the man from falling off the cliff was a sturdy wire fence. Jones was found to be guilty of undue care for following the sat nav down such an obviously dangerous path. Read more

BT Tech to Give Homes Without Broadband Available Faster Connections

There are lots of areas in the UK that aren’t served by Broadband connections. These areas tend to be more rural and lack the infrastructure needed for broadband connectivity. BT has announced that it is set to trial new technology that could offer people in areas with no broadband faster speeds.
BT claims that 3 million UK homes have no access to broadband. The new tech is called BET and is able to extend the reach of broadband from telephone exchanges from the current 5KM or under to 12KM. Read more

Google Unveils Fast Flip Tool

Google has unveiled a new tool called Fast Flip that is designed to let users get their news fix quicker and easier. The new offering is available through Google Labs and lets you flip through news stories.
The cool feature is that the flipping through new stories can be done without having to refer back to the index page of stories. Fast Flip stories can be personalized by reading articles so the more you read, the more content will be offered that is relevant. Read more

T-Mobile and Orange Rumored To Merge In The UK To Battle O2

According to rumors on Dow Jones Newswires picked up by the WSJ France Telecom's Orange and German Telekom UK's T-Mobile merge.
Orange T-Mobile would be UK's largest mobile phone carrier and would make O2 just number 2.

Lady Gaga's hit single Poker Face is the most downloaded song in the UK since establishment of the download charts 5 years ago.
Lady Gaga's Just Dance is on 3rd spot. Only the Kings of Leon could squeeze themselves in between on spot 2.
This is quite impressive, as the Lady Gaga sound is in the dance category, but somehow she also managed to reach into the mainstream with her catchy tunes.

Cool Things Windows 7 Offers Vista Lacks

You have to be living under a rock to not know that Windows 7 is set to debut in only a few months and preorders for the new Os are underway now. Windows 7 has some slick new features that Vista lacks that will make the OS easier to use.
One cool feature is that you can take an open window, click on it, and shake it to minimize all other windows. That is much easier than having to actually click minimize on each window in Vista. Jump lists are another cool 7 feature that lets you access things on the quick via new menus. Read more

Microsoft Talks Windows 7 Upgrades for UK

Microsoft has officially confirmed that there will be upgrade version of Windows 7 for the UK. Microsoft blogger Brandon LeBlanc posted that the upgrade versions are set for pre-orders in UK on September 1 and for general availability on October 22.
Right now, you can preorder the full Windows 7 for the same price as an upgrade version, but that it set to change soon. If you want the best price on full Windows 7, you need to upgrade now. Read more
