ASUS Eee Monitor PC Unveiled

ASUS has been selling its popular and cheap little Eee notebooks for a while now and has recently added an Eee desktop as well. It looks like ASUS has more in store for the Eee line with some images of an all in one PC like the iMac showing up.
Hard details are few but it seems the LCD is somewhere between 19 and 20-inches and may retail from a starting price around $500. There is no mention of the CPU, but considering all new Eee’s use the Intel Atom that is a safe bet. Read more

Lacie Little Big Disk Quadra Grows to 1TB

LaCie has been making external hard drives for a long time now that tend to favor the industrial looks of Mac computers. They will work with Windows machines as well. The latest from LaCie is the Little Big Disk Quadra.
The drive is small at about the size of a brick, but it packs in a full 1TB of storage. Connectivity options include Firewire, eSATA, and USB 2.0. the drive will retail for £440 including a 3-year warranty and EMC Retrospect backup software. Read more

Glass Keyboard Has No Keys

The gang over at Yanko Design has a new glass keyboard that takes some design queues from touch screen devices like the iPhone. The all glass keyboard has no real keys and is see-through.
The entire keyboard is a sheet of glass with key shaped areas on it with letter labels, lighting and a camera. The concept would use motion capture software to change the motion of typing into real typing. Read more

Toshiba 1.8-inch HDD Hits 160GB

Toshiba has announced a new series of 1.8-inch HDDs for consumer electronic devices that use the SATA interface and have a capacity of up to 160GB. Toshiba says that this is the first drive of this type to reach this capacity.
The drives have a fast 5400 RPM rotational speed and the drives can be had in 80GB capacity as well. Toshiba also says that the new drives have a 25% improvement on power usage and have 17% faster data access than previous 1.8-inch drives from Toshiba. Read more

Lite-on Announces 4X Blu-ray Writer for Europe

Lite-On announced that it has launched a new 4X Blu-ray writer in Europe called the DH-4B1S. The new drive is the follow up to the LH-2B1S Blu-ray writer, one of the first Blu-ray writers on the market. The new drive can write BD-R media at 4X and has a 50% faster speed compared to the previous writer.
The new drive uses a constant linear velocity writing strategy allowing for the transfer of data at 18 MB per second during the write session. Lite-On says that the faster 6X drives on the market only hit 6X at the end of the session and start off at slower speeds. Read more

Keyboard Pants Destroy Your Chances of Copulation

If the big bag of gadgets and the high-tech notebook you tote around with you don’t define you as geek enough in your eyes, these new pants surely will. I suspect even that really geeky guy you see at the coffee shop each morning will see these pants and go, man that guy is a geek.
These are no normal pants mind you; they scream geek by actually having a keyboard built-in right across your todger and its two pals. I suggest that you don’t hit the space bar too hard while typing lest you suffer one of the most painful injuries known to man. Read more

AMD Announces Three new X3 Triple-core Processors

AMD officially announced three new Phenom X3 triple-core processors today that AMD hopes users will combine with its AMD 780 series chipset. The processors and the chipset combined promise a full HD experience and what AMD calls visually stunning gaming and digital performance.
The three new processors introduced include the Phenom X3 8750 triple-core running at 2.4 GHz, the Phenom X3 8650 triple-core running at 2.3 GHz and the Phenom X3 8450 running at 2.1 GHz. The processors will retail for $195, $165, and $145 respectively. Read more

Imation Launches Atom Flash Drive

Imation launched its new Atom flash drives clearly aimed at the PICO drives introduced by Super Talent this week. The Atom drive is a bit larger that the competitor though at 30.5 x 13 x 5.6mm.
The drive is encased in aluminum and can be had in capacities from 1GB to 8GB. The Atom is a small package to get 8GB of storage. Read more

Wacom Cintiq 12WX Reviewed

Wacom is well known as a major maker of pen tablets for inputting artwork into a computer. Pocket-lint reviewed the Cintiq 12WX today and gave it high marks and a 9 out of 10 score.
The pros for the device are build and design, and easy operation. The bad had to do with the high price of the unit at £ 829.99. The device has a 12.1-inch screen and is pressure sensitive. Read more

Gigabyte Shows Off Power Miser 8800 GT

Gigabyte showed off an interesting 8800 GT from NVIDIA at CeBIT last week that uses something called Voltage Gear Overdrive designed to reduce the power consumption in 2D mode. The idea is that when the card is being used for normal PC work that doesn’t require full power it throttles back.
This is the way many mainboards operate to conserve power when the full CPU speed isn’t needed. Other interesting features include a Game HUD application. Read more
