ASUS Gets Ready to Drop More Eee Notebooks Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review The word on the street is that ASUS is getting ready to announce a couple of new Eee models. The Eee 904 and 905 are supposed to use the 8.9-inch LCD seen in the other 900 series models, but put the whole works into the larger 10.2-inch case.

That would mean that you get a smaller screen, presumably a lower cost and still get the larger keyboard from the 10-inch Eee. Other benefits of this would be larger batteries for more battery life and a larger storage capacity. Read more

Asus has pulled the wraps off a new notebook that is far from being small; in fact most things about it are big.

The screen is a large 17-inch unit capable of full HD 1080p resolution. The system has a Blu-ray drive and a massive 1TB of storage capacity with a par of 500GB drives. The sound system has four speakers and a subwoofer. Read more

MSI Wind Review Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review MSI’s wind sub-notebook is a rival and competitor to the Asus Eee. Register Hardware has posted a review of the notebook and rated it 95%. In the review Register Hardware says that the Wind has less battery life, but a larger screen than the Eee making it the best overall package.

The MSI Wind retails for £329 and has a 10-inch screen. The Wind is in two colors—black or white and measures 259 x 178 x 36mm. The battery life for the Wind is lower than the Eee 901 in performance modes, but higher than the Eee 701 and 900 standards. Read more

Toshiba's New Qosmio X300 Aimed at Gamers Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Toshiba has pulled the wraps off a new Qosmio X300 notebook that is aimed at the mobile gamer. The notebook was released at a European press conference recently. The notebook uses the same 4-core processor as the G50 and X50 notebooks.

The X300 lacks a Blu-ray drive, but can support Blu-ray playback. The slick cover design is a red flame motif and the screen is 17-inches. Graphics are via NVIDIA and discrete speakers are built-in as well. Read more

Asus Eee 901 Gets UK Launch Date Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review If you have been waiting to get yourself one of the new Asus Eee 901 or Eee 1000 notebooks with the larger screens and Intel Atom processors, the official UK launch date has been announced. The notebooks will be available in the UK on July 1st.

The new Eee systems have bigger screens, more storage space, support for faster 802.11n wireless networking, Bluetooth and more battery life than earlier Eee systems. Pricing for the Eee 901 will be £319 and the 1000 pricing is unannounced at this time. Read more

Voodoo Envy 133 is Thinner than MacBook Air Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Voodoo PC, owned by HP, introduced a new and very svelte PC today called the Voodoo Envy 133 that gives the MacBook Air a run for its money in the thin category. According to Register Hardware the MacBook Air is 1.90cm thick and the Envy 133 is only 1.75 cm thick.

That means Apple will need to change its marketing speak claiming to have the worlds thinnest PC. The Envy 133 has a 13.3-inch LCD with 1280 x 800 resolutions and uses LED backlighting. The Envy 133 is blocky to the Air’s rounded design. Read more

MSI Wind Notebook Review Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review The MSI wind is one of the most recent competitors to the Asus Eee in the tiny netbook category. Pocket-lint got its hands on one and says that the good points of the rig are the Atom CPU, great screen and big keyboard.

The bad point is poor battery life. The end verdict is that the screen and keyboard are fantastic and the Wind doesn’t compromise on usability or features. The review unit used an Intel Atom N270 running at 1.6GHz. Read more

Dell Getting Into Mini-Notebook Market

Dell Getting Into Mini-Notebook Market Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Dell is getting into the lower cost mini-notebook market to compete against the Asus Eee. Michael Dell himself unveiled the little red notebook to Brian Lam from Gizmodo at the All Things Digital Conference. Dell’s official blog says Dell “positioned it as the perfect device for the next billion internet users.”

No specs or pricing have been announced for the device, but it wouldn’t be much of a stretch to see it come with the recently announced Intel Atom processor. Performance won’t be record setting in such a small machine, but it should serve well for some users. Read more

Columbia buys 65,000 XO Laptops Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review The OLPC XO Notebook has not been the success that the OLPC had hoped for after facing stiff competition from other entrants into the ultra-low cost notebook segment, product delays, and cost overruns.

Despite the problems surrounding the XO notebook it has seen some sales with the first order going to Peru. Today BBC News reports that Columbia has placed an order for 65,000 of the XO notebooks. Columbia says that small rural towns will get the first 15,000 XO notebooks ordered and will be distributed over the next 18 months. Read more

Asus sort of Announces Eee PC 1000 Series Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review Asus has a real winner on its hands with the Eee line of small and cheap notebook computers. Most recently it announced the Eee 900 series that features a larger 9-inch display and some new tech. Some journalists are saying that they received an invite to an Asus event at Computex that announced a new product in a roundabout way.

The invitation reportedly says come join Asus for the introduction of the Eee PC 901 and the Eee PC 1000 series. The catch is that Asus doesn’t yet have a 1000 series Eee. Read more

OLPC Promises New XO Notebook by 2010 Technology News, Electronics Buy Guide and Gadget Review The OLPC group has only recently begun selling its XO notebook to governments in developing countries around the world. In fact so far the response to its XO notebook hasn’t been that great. The XO was originally said to be offered for $100 USD and ended up costing in the area of $188 USD.

Despite the difficulties and less than stellar sales the OLPC has already announced it plans to update the XO by 2010. This time the little device is going all high-tech with dual touch screens. You have to wonder at the ability of the OLPC to produce such a notebook at a price anywhere near the $100 UDS mark. Read more
