Microsoft Gives Xbox Live Gold Free for a Week

Microsoft is getting into the holiday spirit already and has announced that they will give Xbox Live silver members a little taste of the Gold life. For a week, Silver members will be able to play using the gold service.

The free week starts on November 25th and will last until the 30th. The free service will provide users with access to all the multiple player modes and downloads that full gold members get. Read more

Modern Warfare 2 Takes Top Spot on Game Charts

The latest game charts are out for the UK and as expected Modern Warfare 2 has taken the top spot as the best selling game of the week. The game sold 1.78 million units in the UK in the first five days it was available.

It generated £67.4 million in sales. The Xbox 360 version of the game shipped a million units the first week alone. The massive sales of the game means that the game alone grossed nearly twice the revenue as the entire game industry last week. Read more

PS3 Update Adds Facebook Integration

The PS3 has been getting some new features recently that add lots of value to the console. The biggest is the new Netflix service for on-demand movies. It looks like Facebook integration is also coming to the console with some new pictures that have hit the web.

Facebook integration is already on the Xbox, but has been missing on the PS3. This is the latest in the tit for tat war between the two consoles. The images also show a feature for changing the color of your gamercard. Read more

Patch for Modern Warfare 2 on PS3 Incoming

The latest installment in the Call of Duty Franchise called Modern Warfare 2 launched this week. The game is widely expected to have one of the biggest game launches of all time and to rack up impressive sales numbers this holiday season.

Infinity Ward, the developer of the game, has stated that a patch for the PS3 version of the game is coming soon. The patch will address complaints about trophies and party invite issues. Read more

Xbox 360 Sky Player Has A Failed Start

On Tuesday Microsoft and Sky launched the Sky Player on the Xbox 360 in the UK. The service stopped working pretty much right after launch due to overwhelming demand says Microsoft.
I cannot verify if the Sky Player service is now working fine on the Xbox 360. The last update from yesterday on the Xbox site says that Microsoft has implemented a revised rollout to access Sky Player on Xbox 360, to ensure that consumers experience both a smooth sign-up process and high-quality experience. Sky Player Comes to Xbox Live

Xbox 360 owners may be glad to hear that Sky Player is now available on the Xbox 360 Xbox Live service. The player will support both on-demand and live broadcast TV. The arrival of the service on the Xbox made no delay in the existing service.

The Sky Player matches the look and feel of the Xbox Live service with wide scrolling tabs to indicate available on-demand or live TV channels. The Sky Player offers 38 channels, 24 of which support live streaming. All users will need an Xbox Live Gold membership to view the content. Read more

Facebook and Twitter Set for Xbox Next Month

Microsoft is determined to add all the extra features they can to the Xbox 360 to lure customers away from competing consoles. The latest feature addition is set to launch on November 17th and will see both Facebook and Twitter get added.

Both sites will be accessible through the Xbox website. The catch, as with most of the cool Xbox services, is that to access either social networking site you will need an Xbox Live Gold Account. Read more

PSP Go Prices Already Slashed

Sony's PSP Go has only been on the market for about a week and it seems that the console isn’t doing that great. Retailers are already slashing prices of the portable console to entice buyers to pick the system up.

Amazon, Play.com, HMV, and GAME have all cut the MSRP of the price by 11% down to £199. The move could perhaps get some mobile gamers to leave the Nintendo DS and iPod touch for the new console. Read more
