O2 MMS Viewing Website Closed After Security Flaw Found

O2 has closed its web site for viewing MMS messages sent to non-MMS compatible handsets after a serious flaw in security was found. The web site was used by users with MMS capable handsets who sent pictures to users without MMS handsets like the new iPhone 3G.

Owners of non-MMS capable handsets received a text with a link to view the picture online. It was discovered that the O2 site hosting the images had no security or log-in procedures and that anyone could view the images. Read more

Details on Possible Sony Ericsson Handset Launches on the 22nd Surface

I mentioned yesterday that Sony Ericsson was teasing the launch of a new product on its website. According to ITProPortal the launch is sure to be the W707 and W302 handsets. It says that the W707 is a cut down version of the W980 with no 8GB of memory.

Other items said to be cut from the W707 include the auto focus digital camera and the FM transmitter. The other handset ITProPortal says will launch is the W302. Read more

Sony Plans big Walkman Launch

Sony Ericsson has a teaser site up for a new Walkman phone that is set to launch on the 22nd of this month. What exactly the phone will be and how it will look is unknown.

It wouldn’t be much of a stretch to imagine Sony trying to get back in the game with a touchscreen handset similar to the iPhone or Instinct. Read more

Spy Shots of BlackBerry Thunder Leaked

Most of the modern world and geeks really into cell phones know that the BlackBerry Thunder is coming to do battle with the iPhone. The Thunder is an all touch screen device and some spy pics of its on-screen keyboard have hit the Internet.

The Thunder has a feature that I wish my iPhone had, an on-screen keyboard that changes orientation when you hold the device on its side or vertically. When on its side the keyboard is said to change into a well spaced full QWERTY unit. Read more

O2 is totally sold out of the iPhone 3G

O2 already said on Thursday that stock of the iPhone 3G will be limited and that customers have to wait until August to get an iPhone 3G. Now after the iPhone 3G launch day is over the O2 website states that there are no iPhone 3G left in stock currently.

O2 says that every customer interested in an iPhone 3G will get one by the end of this summer. The initial supply is limited and will be for some weeks. Read more

iPhone Launch in UK in Chaos after System Failure

Things were in chaos this morning when the iPhone 3G launched in the UK according to Mobile News. The problem occurred shortly after O2 and Carphone Warehouse stores opened and the Gateway connection process O2 uses failed.

The failure meant that workers had to call customer service manually to activate the phones causing delays. One staffer said: "It has been chaos; of all the days it could happen, today is the worst." Read more

Tomorrow is D-Day for Apple iPhone 3G fans with the device going on sale around the world at the same time. the expected limited availability of the handset has buyers already waiting in lines in many cities around the world.

If you are in the UK and are looking to get your iPhone 3G from O2, you might want to reconsider the huge line. O2 has said according to Times Online that it could be August before many buyers can get their hands on the iPhone 3G. Read more

T-Mobile Says UK Customers Want Internet at Beach

T-Mobile says that it recently took a survey of British customers to see what they thought about wireless Internet access and where the access should be available. According to the study 20% of the customers polled say that they should be able to get Internet access everywhere.

That everywhere includes places like the pub, the beach and the park. Specifically users thought they should be able to access sites like Facebook and 8% wanted pub access, no doubt to be able to prove who the best footballer is with hard facts. Read more

iPhone 3G Reviews Hit American Papers

The first iPhone 3G reviews are cropping up from American journalists including the king of geeky tech types, Walt Mossberg. According to T3 Mossberg says he has played with the phone for a few weeks and that the 3G version is 3-5 times faster than the original for web surfing.

Mossberg says battery life is about 6 hours and that talk time for him was 4.5 hours, three hours less than he got out of the original iPhone. Mossberg also pointed out a syncing bug when used for Exchange or personal accounts. Read more

O2 Says iPhone 3G Will be in Very Short Supply for Weeks

According to Register Hardware O2 is blaming Apple for the “frustrating and disappointing experience” those who tried to get an iPhone 3G this week have dealt with. According to O2 Apple has been unable to provide it with enough stock of the iPhone 3G despite 02’s request for more devices.

If you were wondering if the iPhone 3G would be in short demand I guess that is your answer. 02 says the device will be in very short supply for weeks. O2 says that it was receiving pre-orders in the amount of 13,000 per second when its website collapsed this week. Read more
