SanDisk Ships Next Generation Memory Card Reader

SanDisk has announced that it is now shipping a next generation memory card reader. The new SanDisk ImageMate card reader offers efficiency and faster data transfer rates and they are available for purchase now.
The reader is faster and smaller than previous memory card readers from SanDisk. The first new reader is the All-in-One memory card reader and is capable of reaching speeds up to 34 MB/s when reading a SanDisk Extreme IV 45MB/s CompactFlash card. Read more

9,000 USB Drives Left at UK Dry Cleaners

I can understand forgetting to remove stuff from your pockets when you wash clothes or send them out to the dry cleaner. I have washed more than one of my flash drives over the years and have washed my wallet on more than one occasion.
A new survey conducted in the UK has found that over 9,000 flash drives are left in the pockets of clothing sent out for cleaning. Perhaps Ofcom should be checking the local laundry for all of those lost flash drives. Read more

Intel Atom Roadmap Details Revealed

Virtually every netbook on the market uses the same class-leading Intel Atom N270 CPU. The tiny CPU has proven to be a big hit for Intel, despite the low margins on the product. A new Roadmap from Intel has surfaced showing some future Atom processors that will be coming to market.
The future Atom parts are set to hit in 2010 and will be built on the 32nm manufacturing process. The new Atom parts carry the codename Medfield and will be a full system-on-a-chip solution with a CPU and chipset on one die. Read more

Sony Announces Desktop Speakers

Sony has announced a new line of desktop speakers to go along with its VAIO notebooks and PCs. Sony says that the speakers are designed around quality and visual appeal with bright colors and interesting designs.
The systems include the SRS-D25 2.1 array with 25W of power in several colors. The SRS-M50 is a portable set that offers 5W of power in a compact design that can be powered by AAA batteries. A two-piece SRS-Z50 kit uses 38mm neodymium driver that offers 5W of power. Read more

Mitsubishi Launches Tiny XD95U Projector

Mitsubishi has announced its latest projector called the XD95U Pico-Portable Projector. The projector weighs 3.3 pounds and is smaller than a standard sheet of notebook paper. Despite the small size, the projector offers 2200 ANSI lumens.
Other features include a XGA 1024 x 768 resolution and it uses TI DLP technology. The projector can produce a viewable image size 40 to 200 inches diagonal and has a contrast ratio of 2000:1. Inputs include mini D-Sub, RCA, and S-Video. Physical dimensions are 7.5" x 3.1" x 8.1". Read more

Vodafone Launches HSDPA Dongle with 4GB

Vodafone has launched a new mobile broadband USB dongle that offers up 4GB of storage in addition to mobile web surfing. The device is called the USB Stick Pro Mobile and offers up HSDPA connection speeds.
The modem will be able to hit 4.5 to 5Mbps. Some pricing plans for service to go along with the modem start at £12.91+VAT including the modem itself for 3GB of usage. Read more

Mousepad with Blanket Built-in

So winter is coming and in many colder climates, the first snowfalls of the year are already on the ground. With that, it's time to start seeing lots of weird peripherals. Each year we see a plethora of gadgets designed to keep you warm.
Things like this mouse pad with a blanket built-in over the top of the mouse pad. The whole device seems weird to me. If it's so cold in your home or office that you need a mouse pad with a blanket, you really need to turn up the heat. Read more

Mitsubishi 20.1-inch USB LCD

Mitsubishi has announced a new 20.1-inch widescreen LCD called the RDT201WDL Wide LCD in Japan. There is no word on whether it will make it to other countries.
The LCD features a DisplayLink option that allows it to operate with a USB port rather than a video card output. The resolution for the display is 1680x1050 and it has a built-in USB hub and Ethernet. Read more

Microsoft And Hauppauge Announce Freeview-certified PC solution

Microsoft and Hauppauge announced today that the two firms have teamed up to bring UK viewers the first Free-view certified PC solution. The new device will allow UK viewers to watch Freeview programming on their PC.
Microsoft says that Windows Media Center, found on all Vista Premium and Ultimate PCs, will now offer users in the UK interactive and enhanced TV along with PVR functionality. Microsoft is mum on the form factor used for the device. A USB tuner is likely and an add-in card version wouldn't be out of the question. Read more

Rumor: Apple to Update Cinema Displays in Early 2009

Apple has been offering the same basic Cinema Displays for a number of years now with nothing more than slight spec updates. According to rumors that may well change in early 2009 at MacWorld 2009 with a total refresh across the line.
Apple is said to be refreshing the line of Cinema Displays that are currently offered in 20-inch, 23-inch, and 30-inch sizes. There are no hard details on what the update would entail at this time. Read more

FireWire Gets Quad Damage

FireWire has been around for a long item now, though it has not been as mainstream as USB. FireWire is still a commonly used method for connecting devices like camcorders and external storage to a PC. FireWire is also known as IEEE 1394 standard.
The standard is set to get a speed increase of four times this year. The new standard will bring S1600 and S320 with theoretical transfer speeds of 1.6GB/s and 3.2GB/s using existing cables and connections for backwards compatibility. Read more
