Japan Only White PS3 Coming

Word has trickled in that Sony will be offering a new limited edition PS3 bundle for Final Fantasy XII. The new bundle will include a white PS3 with the caveat that the bundle is only going to be offered in Japan.

The white case of the PS3 will also be adorned with graphics from the game and will hit Japanese stores on December 17 for about £288. The best chance for you to get one of the bundles is to hit eBay where you can expect to pay much more than retail. Read more

New Nintendo Wii Bundle Rumored for UK

There are Wii price-cut rumors that should become reality this weekend at least in the United States. The UK is rumored by MCV to get a new Wii bundle.

The new Wii bundle would include the Wii Console, Wiimote, Nunchuck controller, a MotionPlus module and both Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. Read more

Need for Speed Shift Tops on UK Game Charts

The EA franchise Need for Speed has been around for a long time and has offered titles that are based on track racing and those that are based on the street racing world. The latest game in the franchise called Need for Speed Shift has shot to the top of the UK game rankings.

The game debuted at the top of the top ten games for consoles this week with Guitar Hero 5 in second place. Third place went to Dirt 2 with Batman: Arkham Asylum in fourth. The first week for Shift saw the PS3 as the top selling platform for the game with 52% of copies sold for the PS3. Read more

Sony Defends Against Alleged PS3 Manufacturing Fault Claims By BBC

A BBC show called Watchdog makes the life of Sony marketing a bit tough these days in the UK. The show interviewed some PS3 (old version) consumers that experienced the so called Yellow Light of Death.
The BBC Watchdog show claims that about 12,500 PS3 consoles sold in the UK (from overall 2.5m) failed with a Yellow light flashing on the front panel. Sony does not like to call this issue the Yellow Light of Death, as it does not describe the bug that can be more complex.

Sony also says that there are less than the 12,500 faulty PS3 consoles. Read more

Modern Warfare Xbox Coming Soon

The Xbox 360 just got its price cut to go along with the introduction of the new PS3 Slim console to $299 in the US. Word is coming in now that there is a new Modern Warfare 2 bundle on the horizon that will bump the price back up to $399 in the US.

A price for the UK has not yet been set, but the system will presumably be coming to Europe as well. The device is a limited edition Xbox 360 with a 250Gb HDD, two wireless controllers and a wireless headset. Read more

New 250GB PS3 Slim Rumor Circulates

It has only been a few weeks since the PS3 slim debuted after being rumored for a long time. With the debut of the new slim console, the price for the system dropped significantly and spurred a significant growth in sales for Sony.

A new PS3 Slim rumor is making the rounds now. The new rumor expects that Sony will launch a new 250GB PS3 Slim console next month. The new console will supposedly sell for about €350. Read more

Google and Hasbro to Offer Free Online Monopoly

Google and board game maker Hasbro have announced that they are teaming up to offer a free online version of the popular board game Monopoly. The web-based game will be created by Hasbro and will use Google maps.

This will allow players to buy and sell real world streets from around the globe. The online version will let users build football stadiums and other sites along with houses and hotels on their property. Read more

Sony PS3 Slim Outsells Wii And Xbox In UK

Yahoo! Tech has the European console sales numbers, courtesy of market-researcher Chart-Track. According to them, the Slim is currently outselling both the Nintendo Wii and the Xbox 360 by a 3 to 1 ratio. Overall, PS3 sales are up 1000% over the previous week.

Of course, a lot of this is due to the fact that the gap between the PS3 and opposing consoles was much less in the UK than it is in the US. There, they were only behind by around a million units. Here, the gap is nine times larger. The fact that customers held off buying normal PS3s over the last few weeks in anticipation over the Slim also likely contributed to the sharp growth seen.

PS3 3.0 Firmware Released

Sony released the 3.0 software update this week for the PS3 console. The update applies to users of the new PS3 Slim and the older PS3 models. The update added a bunch of new features including support for BBC iPlayer.

Previously the only way to watch the iPlayer on the console was with a workaround, but that is no longer needed now. The PlayStation Video store was also announced and will launch in November. Read more

Sales of Xbox 360 Elite Soar Post Cut

Microsoft cut the price of the Xbox 360 Elite late last month to compete against the new lower price PS3 Slim that was debuted by Sony. The Elite now sells for 199 GBP compared to the 250GBP is retailed for before.

Microsoft made a wise move on the price cut and according to industry sources, sales are booming for the Elite after the price cut. Sales of the Elite are said to be up 43% from pre price cut levels. Read more
