Rock Band 2 Premium Drum Kit Surfaces

There is definitely a battle royale going for the top honors in the music game genre between Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero: World Tour are both still a long way from launching, but some details on the Rock Band 2 Premium Drum kit have surfaced.
The kit will be made by Ion, the same gang who makes USB drum kits for the PC. The kit has the four circular drum pads we are familiar with along with a couple cymbals up top as well. The kit won’t be cheap though with a price of £150 according to TrustedReviews. Read more

PS3 Update 2.41 Promises not to Kill Your PS3

After the PS3 firmware 2.40 was found to have caused the untimely demise of several different PS3 consoles around the world, Sony pulled the 2.40 update from its website. Today we get the improved version that hopefully doesn’t break our PS3’s.
Firmware version 2.41 is now available for download in the traditional methods. The update adds trophies capability to the PS3 and in-game XMB access. The new update promises to not kill your console. Read more

PS3 Firmware 2.40 Bricks Some Consoles

There are some very angry PS3 owners that now have bricked PS3 consoles after applying the 2.40 update to their systems that adds the feature for trophies and other updates to the console. The vast majority of users were able to download and install the update without issue.
However, a few PS3 owners ended up with failed updates and bricked consoles. How many exactly had a problem with the update is unknown, but it was enough that Sony has pulled the 2.40 update until it can figure out the issue. Read more

Malware Infection Risk on Playstation Store says Security Firm

According to security firm Sophos SQL injection vulnerabilities on the US Sony Playstation website have left visitors at risk of malware infection on their PC. The site was hit by hackers and malicious code was inserted on pages for the games SingStar Pop and God of War.
The code promotes scareware to visitors by claiming that their machines are infected with computer viruses to get them to purchase software with no value. Sophos says that this technique could be used to serve Trojans or other forms of malware as well. Read more

First PS3 Trophy Compatible Games Appear

With the recent PS3 2.40 patch going live, the way for the PS3 Trophy system is paved and ready to go. The first games to support Trophy’s are now getting patched to allow gamers to start collecting.
The first game to get a Trophy patch is the download game Super Stardust HD and players can start getting trophies right now. Other developers have pledged to support trophies in future releases and in games already on the market. Read more

EA Says it is Aware of Server Issues for Bad Company

EA has said that it is aware of some Xbox 360 users having server issues with the new Battlefield: Bad company video game. By most accounts the game is one of the best multiplayer shooters around and while a fix is promised for now all EA can offer is advice.
EA says that gamers should turn off their console for 20 minutes before trying to play Bad Company online. Sounds like an odd fix and there seems to be no indication at this time as to what exactly is causing the issue for players. Read more

Sony Dualshock for PS3 in UK Next Week

For many fans of the PS3 game system one of the things most missed from the PS2 to the PS3 is the vibration feedback from the Dualshock controller. Sony was embroiled in a patent suit that prevented vibration feedback from being built-in to the original PS3 controller.
Sony has since settled the suit and has now announced that starting next week the PS3 Dualshock controller will be available. Starting Wednesday gamers in the UK can buy the new controller for £39.99. Read more

Sony PS3 Gets Movie Downloads this Summer

Movie downloads are going to be a big business and are seen as the replacement to physical movie purchases by many users. As consumers have warmed to the thought of buying digital music rather than physical albums many see movies going the same way.
To prepare for this eventuality many companies are offering digital films for purchase already, the largest of the companies is Apple with its iTunes service. According to Eurogamer Sony is set to launch a movie download service via the PS3 in the US this summer. Read more

Sony PS3 to get Trophies

Gamers who play on the Xbox 360 are familiar with the achievements that you can win from accomplishing different feats in the games played on the system. This is one of the things that the PS3 has lacked.
Trusted Reviews reports that a blog from Sony says that the PS3 will be getting trophies along with in-game XBM access. While Sony offers no details on the trophies feature, it would seem to be something similar to the Achievements on the Xbox. Read more

Rumor: Sony Working on Two-part Wii Style PS3 Controller

A rumor is going around that Sony is working on a new controller for the PS3 that is two pieces and would be motion sensing. I guess the old adage “if you can’t beat them, join them” is holding true as Sony whips up a Wii style controller.
According to Trusted Reviews the controller would have an accelerometer in each half to allow for motion sensing like the current controller offers. Obviously the image here is not the real deal as Trusted Reviews says. Read more

GTA IV sells 11 Million Units so Far

Eurogamer reports that GTA IV has sold 8.5 million units between April 29th and May 31st and that total shipments at this time are 11 million. The game helped push Take-Two profits to $98.2 million USD. Gross sales of the game have been $500 million USD to date.
That figure makes the hottest movies so far this summer green with envy. Eurogamer says that the downloadable content for the game has been postponed to a November to January time frame. Read more
